The Talent Pool

Imagine a bustling downtown cityscape, not just of tech giants and startups, but of engineers and dreamers building something extraordinary - satellites. That's the reality at Astranis, where location isn't just about trendy cafes and cable cars, it's about tapping into the Bay Area's unparalleled talent pool.

"There's some amazing people in California," Jeff Tiedeken, Astranis' Production Manager, explains. "We have NASA, Lockheed, Maxar, and so many talented individuals right here. This cross-pollination of expertise, from nuclear to medical to aerospace, is what makes Astranis unique."

It's not just about boasting big names; it's about the synergy created when diverse backgrounds collide. This melting pot of skills fuels innovation and allows Astranis to tackle the complex challenges of building satellites, right in the heart of San Francisco.

Machines with Precision

While the human talent is undeniable, Astranis wouldn't be where it is without the muscle of its impressive machine shop. The gleaming Matsuura MX-330 and MX-850 stand like sentinels of precision, carving out intricate satellite components with micron-level accuracy. Their smooth surfaces, reflecting light like mirrors, are testaments to their dedication to perfection.

But Astranis isn't afraid to mix and match. Alongside the high-tech Matsuuras sits the Haas VF-6, a versatile workhorse tasked with prototyping, tooling, and handling the odd and ends. This combination of power and flexibility allows Astranis to handle the diverse needs of their satellite builds, from large-scale structures to delicate circuit boards.
